Hey everyone! Another busy day of getting the boat ready is behind us. Today was all about sorting out our massive mountain of supplies, doing some fine-tuning, and making sure we are safe out there. When you are heading out to the open sea, every little detail counts!
The Grocery Puzzle: Packing the Lea
Our main mission today was dealing with the huge amount of food and gear we bought over the last few days. It turns out that packing a boat is a real art form!
- Ditching the plastic: We sorted through all the fresh fruits and veggies, ripped off all the supermarket plastic wrap, and repacked everything so it stays fresh for the weeks ahead.
- Teamwork and tweaks: We are leaning heavily on the crew's past sailing experience. If someone saw a better way to store something, we didn't cut corners. We literally dumped boxes back on the deck and started over until it was just right.
- Playing Tetris: Luckily, the Lea has tons of storage spaces. By the end of the day, every single item found its perfect home inside the cabin or in the boxes tied down on the deck.
Target Practice: Getting Ready for Polar Bears!
After a quick lunch break, we headed out to a local shooting range to test our new rifles and get some practice in.
- Safety first: Before we started, I gave everyone a serious safety briefing about how we handle weapons on the range and during the trip.
- High-tech in the wild: The range was out in the beautiful open nature but totally high-tech, complete with electronic targets, binoculars, and great shooting stations.
- Practice makes perfect: Our first round was... well, let's just say we needed some help! The instructors helped us calibrate the rifles, and our shooting got way better.
- The heavy stuff: Everyone got comfortable holding the guns and fixing jams. More importantly, we all realized the huge responsibility we have to protect the crew from polar bears. It was a super important day that gave everyone a massive confidence boost.
Dinner, Dessert, and Final Countdowns
We headed back to the boat to finish up a few remaining chores. To celebrate a hard day's work, the Alexes cooked up an amazing dinner: chicken and rice with veggies, topped with a spicy yogurt-chili sauce. It hit the spot!
To top it all off, Saeny baked us a vanilla-flavored apple cake. It smelled so incredible that we practically devoured it before it even had a chance to cool down out of the oven!
Tomorrow is our final day of prep. If all goes to plan, both the boat and the crew will be 100% ready to hit the open ocean. Stay tuned!
